Foundations

Grant making foundations are important supporters of venture philanthropy and may act in multiple roles as VP practitioners, funders of independent VP practitioners and co-investors.  The experience and knowledge of foundations, often active in the social sector for many years, can be a source of insight, due diligence and deal flow to VP practitioners.

In Asia the grant making foundation sector is at a relatively early stage of development and in the region family offices, family businesses and high net worth individuals may directly engage in VP in a similar way to foundations in the US and Europe.

Membership of AVPN enables foundations to:

  • Shape a growing Asian (and global) initiative in philanthropy based on their own long experience of social finance
  • Refer organisations they support to VP funds for potential investment
  • Generate opportunities for co-funding with VP investments
  • Receive training opportunities for staff professional development
