AVPN goes on the road next month with its next workshop series on social impact measurement between July 22 and 29 in Mumbai, Singapore, Beijing and Hong Kong. Click on the links to the left to reserve your place and learn about putting impact measurement into practice using web-based resources. Also save the dates for this year’s Venture Philanthropy in Practice Road Show from October 16th to 25th.
AVPN and its members cover the spectrum from philanthropic to investment capital that is seeking impactful social returns. Some of the best opportunities and debates arise in the middle ground where both types of funding could, should and have been been applied. That’s why this was the focus at our oversubscribed first regional conference last month. Read more in AVPNews and on the conference website about this high energy event that brought together more than 340 people from 31 countries. We are starting to plan next year’s event to be in May in Singapore.
Venture philanthropists follow a wide range of strategies to seek out high potential charities/non-profits or social enterprises in order to support them over a multi-year period with a mix of financial and human capital. Venture philanthropy organisations bring their own intellectual capital and networks as well as mobilising volunteers, pro bono service providers and specialist consultants. Building an ecosystem – or a social capital marketplace – in Asia needs longer term philanthropic capital. This was recognised at the Impact Forum in Singapore earlier this month when I spoke on the “Intermediaries Intervention” panel.
We are actively collecting and sharing knowledge about the leading venture philanthropy organisations in Asia and their investments. Be sure to send us details of the transactions you are involved in. Keep track of news and forthcoming events at the AVPN website.
We announced the search in May for a new CEO for the next stage of AVPN’s expansion as I transition to become an active non-executive director. We have now grown to 135 members from 22 countries and have a very strong platform for future growth. I would like to thank everyone I have met and worked with over the last two years — our members, sponsors, pro bono supporters and of course the hard working AVPN team. I look forward to interacting with you at future AVPN events.
As always, send us your comments and feedback so that we can build a more vibrant and high impact venture philanthropy community.
